Potassium is an essential mineral included in most people diet plans. Generally, people obtain

increase their mineral content while others can go for decreasing it. Factors responsible for fluctuation of mineral level especially potassium level can be diseases

Potassium reaches our body through small intestine where it gets wrapped up be body. Good nutrition and health can’t be achieved without proper potassium intake. Involving variety of foods and vegetables can help you in reaching the minimum requirement for the body. However, it is difficult to maintain recommended sodium to potassium ratio.

One can suffer from potassium deficiency, if potassium content goes below the minimum required value. You can suffer from fatigue doing small work. Blood pressure changes frequently as a sign of potassium deficiency. Muscles get weakened and as a result you are not able to lift loads effectively. Heart beat also become irregular as a result of low content of potassium. Hypokalemia is one of the diseases resulting from potassium deficiency. Overdoses of potassium are quite rare to occur but they can prove to be serious if they do occur. Heart and kidney damage can be resulted by increased level of potassium.

Potassium supplements are generally prescribed to people having low content of potassium especially diabetic patients. Proper potassium level should be maintained in their body for the proper functioning of insulin. Cells of pancreas are rejuvenated by proper potassium intake.

Potassium can be found in many foods like bananas, citrus fruits, grains, vegetables, meat and fish. Minimum daily intake of potassium as recommended by doctors is set up to be 3.5 gms. One should have proper intake of potassium to avoid any potassium deficient disease.
